Baitianba Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by Bao Ci and Wang Guoning as “Coal Measures” in 1954. The naming locality is situated in the vicinity of the Baitianba, with the Xiasi section at Guangyuan serving as its reference section (Wang Si’en, 1985).

Lithology and Thickness
It is mainly composed of grey-white and yellow-green fine-grained sandstone, siltstone and mudstone, intercalated with thin coal beds and coal seams, with a layer of quartz-conglomerate in the basal part of the formation. It is of 204 m in thickness.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
This formation overlies disconformably the underlying Xiujiahe Fm
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Qianfoya Fm
Regional extent
The formation is distributed in the areas of Guangyuan, Jiangyou, Wangcang, Nanjiang and Wanyuan to the northwest and north of the Sichuan Basin, with its thickness varying from 60 m to 364 m. In the area of Jinzhi Mts south of Guangyuan the rocks are becoming coarser and coarser, being composed chiefly of quartz-conglomerate.

Fossils
It yields plant fossils: Coniopteris hymenophylloides, Ptilophyllum pecten, Anomozamites inconstans and Baiera munsteriana; as well as Palaeolimnadia baitianbaensis.
